Investigating the Menu: Charlotte's Coffee House
Very few local coffee shops have been as successful as Charlotte's. They have three locations with one recently opening on Cedar Cross. They've been around since I was young and they've survived longer than others.
I'm a fan of Charlotte's. I made the mistake of ordering their Chicken Bacon Pesto Panini and now I have to stop myself from pulling into their drive thru everytime I pass it. Unfortunately, this means that I'm not super well versed on their menu. That panini is just too good.
I also want to visit their new location to see if it's as nice as the pictures. I haven't been to their original location in ages due to it being incredibly crowded when I last visited. I'm not good with crowded spaces so I usually stick to their drive thru. Looking at photos, it appears to have improved so maybe I'll have to visit it again sometime.
To kill two birds with one stone, I decided to investigate further.
Walking into their new location, I couldn't help myself from admiring it. It's small, but they've made great use of the space. There's a room for ordering, a seating area in another room, as well as an outdoor seating section. The view from the outdoor seating deck was incredible, by the way. Even out the window it looked like a postcard. Wish I'd gotten a chance to go out onto the deck but maybe next time.
The design of the place actually really impressed me. The seating area felt super cozy and kind of looked like a living room. Wooden tables and seats with a fireplace on the wall really give it a cabiny atmosphere. I appreciated how you couldn't hear the loud coffee machines from the seating area. Those things always irritate my ears so it was very refreshing to have them muffled in another room.
Ordering was easy and they just hand you a number and you take a seat at any table you'd like. They brought the food out in cute dishware that really made it feel like home. I love a good mason jar glass.
Speaking of, here's all I tried and my thoughts.
Frozen Spicy Mango Chamoy Smoothie:
Now this item interested me to no end. This is one of their special summer drinks and it felt like a mix of everything I love. It's a mango smoothie with strawberry boba, chamoy, and tajin seasoning. I love almost everything in that sentance. I was on the fence about the chamoy because I wasn't really familiar with it. I'm not great with spice so I was wary going into it.
This drink is great. If you can handle tajin, you can handle this drink. It's a beautiful blend of my favorite things so I definitely will be ordering it again. I'm sorry for doubting you Charlotte's.
Coffee Cake:
I try to have everything as fresh as I can but I can only have so much food in one sitting. I'm no Joey Chestnut. I took this delight home, took a nap, then nuked it in the microwave for about 35 seconds and it was still heavenly. A wonderful little crumble on top of a good slice of coffee cake. Maybe even the best coffee cake I've ever had, and I love coffee cake.
Acai Bowl:
My mother loves acai bowls, but I had a problem with nutritional food growing up so I never gave it a shot. Acai bowls have now been added to the (sizable) list of things that I should've listened to my mother about. These things are delightful. It's a berry-like frozen sorbet on a bed of granola, topped with bananas, berries, and whatever else you'd like. Very reminiscent of a yogurt parfait. It was so good I went to the drive thru and ordered another one the next day. If you haven't tried one, please give these a shot, they're so refreshing and delicious.
Chicken Bacon Pesto Panini:
I love this thing with my whole heart. Chicken, peppers, bacon, cheese, and pesto on two lovely slices of toasted bread. Could have these everyday. I don't have much else to say on this delightful sandwich.
Final thoughts:
Charlotte's is here to stay, there's no doubt about it. They're doing amazing for themselves with the multiple locations. The food maintains the same great quality I remember as a kid. I've been loyal to the Chicken Bacon Pesto Panini for a while now, but instead of finding my new favorite item, I've found my new favorite eatery.
